The Count of Monte Cristo

One of the most famous adventure novels of all time, The Count of Monte Cristo follows the sailor Edmond Dantès, who is falsely accused of treason on his wedding day and then imprisoned in an infamous island fortress without a trial. Fellow prisoner Abbé Faria takes Edmond under his wing, mentoring him, teaching him to read, and eventually revealing a secret to him: the secret of a treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo.
With the promise of the hidden fortune, Edmond hatches a plan to escape confinement and bring vengeance on those who locked him there without cause, but it will take years for him to succeed. This is an odyssey of justice, revenge, and-of course-love.
